Reflection

English Composition 2 was a journey. Not only did my writing itself grow, but I also feel that researching my social epidemic topics helped open my eyes to things that I previously would not have given a second thought to. This course urged me to dip deeper into topics, helped me expand on my formatting and research abilities, and forced me to think outside the box. My argumentative essay was the strongest essay that I wrote in this course. This essay helped refine my writing and research abilities the most; having to use convincing evidence pushed me to do deeper research on my topic instead of just skimming the surface. The rhetorical essay allowed me more creativity as I was able to choose an author that I was already interested in. This provided not only research on my social epidemic topic but also the author I decided to write about, which was something I particularly enjoyed about the rhetorical analysis essay. Besides the essays, I also enjoyed the coursework. Writing analyses for movies such as The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock was something I found engaging and ultimately helped my writing abilities. I am proud of the obvious growth in my writing ability this course has given me. Before this course, I felt that my essays lacked proper structure, but due to this course requiring the PEE format to be used, I now understand formatting and structure more than previously. Overall, this course helped me grow as a writer in more ways than one. This was an amazing course that challenged my previous abilities and forced me to expand on them. The topics for both essays allowed me to think freely while also teaching me how to do better and more relevant research. The course structure itself also gave me the ability to work on my own schedule, which I do believed was something that helped me and my writing abilities. Professor Hammett’s feedback on the essays as well as other coursework also helped me understand what I was doing wrong and helped me fix any issues I was experiencing.
